Now that the plug has been pulled, I’d like to point out that the whole thing would have worked if they had made it a period piece. A live sketch show in either the early ’60 a la “Your Shows of Shows” or late ’80s SNL. The classiness and nostalgia could have leaven Sorkin’s over-wrought seriousness and there wouldn’t have to have been all the embarrassingly uncool current references (Three 6 Mafia? What a stupid douche cameo).

Actually, I think what would’ve been more awesomer is if they would’ve brought it back in the early 90’s. The could have New Edition on as a guest star played by all of the people in New Edition.

That would equal comedic gold. You wouldn’t need to worry about even writing comedy then. Bobby Brown is a genius.

Or a sketch comedy show being filmed live during the Spanish American War and the guy who does impressions of Teddy Roosevelt gets all upset when the real TR stops by for a walk on.
